about chantel chavon
A proud south-side Chicago native, Chantel Chavon is a rising multi-disciplinary writer, director, producer, and actor who brings the wildly embarrassing, adventurous, provocative, haunting, other-worldly, and heartwarming stories from her imagination to the screen—all while thrusting the full and nuanced lives of Black characters to the center of her stories. Acting since the age of five, Chantel has performed in multiple theatre productions, digital series, and independent films. She is a professionally trained actor who has studied theatre, television, and film techniques at The Green Room Studio, Actors Studio Chicago, ETA Creative Arts, and the Vagabond School of the Arts.
After gaining experience working behind the scenes on multiple sets as a PA, and feeling exhausted with the lack of opportunities she was presented with for more meaningful roles as an actor, she was inspired to make the transition behind the camera to create more of the stories with nuanced characters that she was interested in portraying or watching. Chantel studied the art of filmmaking intensely, taking various screenwriting, producing, editing, and directing for TV/Film classes at Chicago Filmmakers and Second City Training Center.
As the Co-Founder of Nyte Lyte Productions, Chantel has executive-produced, written, starred, and directed a comedic digital-series pilot, Life With Bae, and the award-winning dramatic short film, When the Leaves Fall, which upon it’s 2021 film festival debut won top distinctions including, Best Drama (Winner), Best Actress (Winner), and Honorable Mentions for Best Director and Best Short Narrative.
With a goal of directing major TV projects, Chantel completed shadowing training with renowned TV/Film director, Lily Wachowski, on the Showtime episodic series Work in Progress. She also completed the TV Director Shadowing Workshop with TV director Bolo Ogun, and the Director Intensive: Basics of Blocking training with acclaimed TV director, Dr. Rachel Raimist.
In 2022, Chantel was selected as a Full Spectrum Features: Chicago Independent Producers’ Lab Fellow. Upon completion, Chantel garnered the full support of Full Spectrum Features, DCASE, and the Chicago Film Office on the development of upcoming TV/Film projects on her slate.
Chantel holds a Master’s Degree in Integrated Marketing Communication from Northwestern University.
